What an Adventure Actually Feels Like

Two Adventure Guides travel with your group from arrival to farewell, and they carry everything — the luggage, the tickets, the transfers, the restaurant reservations, the local experts, the “where do we stand for the best view.” It's the Disney service standard applied to the real world: you feel it at the parks, and then one day a guide is handing you cold water on a game drive in South Africa and you realize it travels. The days are planned; the wonder is not.

What we loved most is how easy Adventures by Disney made it to show our kids the world while they were still young. Europe with children, luggage, trains, and planes can feel daunting — Disney simply made it easy. And I can't tell you how rewarding it is when your kids pipe up about something they're learning in school with “oh yeah — we were just there last summer.” That's the gift these trips gave our family: broader views, and the kind of memories that come up at the dinner table for years.

Where the Adventures Go — and Where We've Been

Adventures by Disney organizes its catalog into five regions, so here it is the same way — more than 30 land itineraries as of this year, with the trip I'd call the grand one in each region, and my family's own checkmarks along the way:

• Africa — Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. The grand one: the South Africa safari — Cape Town, then Kapama game drives with elephants close enough to hear. We've done all three — South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt (that's Abu Simbel in the photo above).
• Asia Pacific — Japan, China, Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, and the brand-new Thailand adventure. The grand one: Japan — we trekked the famous torii gates and still talk about the CupNoodles Museum in Yokohama. We've done Japan and the Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia adventure — and Thailand is already on our books for 2027.
• Europe — the deepest bench in the catalog: three Italy itineraries (Rome–Tuscany–Venice, Amalfi Coast & Florence, and a re-imagined Sicily & Amalfi Coast), two Greece itineraries, the new Croatia & Slovenia, plus Ireland, Scotland, the British Isles, England & France, London–Paris–Rome, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Portugal, and Central Europe. We've adventured Sicily, Scotland, and Greece — falconry at Floors Castle and canoeing Loch Ness included — and Iceland and Switzerland are booked next.
• North America — Alaska, Wyoming, Arizona & Utah, the Canadian Rockies, Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island, and a Disneyland Resort & Southern California backstage adventure. The grand one: Alaska, Disney's wildest backyard trip. Our checkmark here is Wyoming — geysers by day, cowboy campfires by night.
• Central & South America — Costa Rica and Peru. The grand one: Peru, walking into Machu Picchu with Adventure Guides handling every logistic at altitude.

The River Cruises

Two things make the rivers special for us. You see a broad sweep of Europe — city after city — but you never pack, unpack, or change hotels, because your hotel sails with you. And between the big cities, the small towns and ports of call show you the day-to-day life of Europe that big-city itineraries miss.

Adventures by Disney charters entire AmaWaterways ships for its river sailings, so everyone aboard is on the adventure — and we've sailed every river ABD offers:

• The Danube — the classic, with Oktoberfest, Christmas Markets, and Magical Holidays editions. Budapest to Bavaria, castle after castle.
• The Rhine — newly enhanced for 2027, plus Christmas Markets and Food & Wine sailings, through the villages that inspired the fairy tales.
• The Rhône — Lyon & Provence: lavender country, Roman ruins, and the best food valley in France.
• Holland & Belgium — including the tulip-season sailing, when the fields are a Disney color palette all their own.

(We also sailed the Seine back when ABD offered it — ask me about Paris another way if the river list ever grows again.)

One more for the memory books: Antarctica, aboard Ponant's Le Lyrial. ABD no longer offers the Antarctica sailing — we're glad we went when we did, and it shows just how far Disney will take you.

Is It Worth It? My Honest Answer

Adventures by Disney is a premium way to travel, and the honest answer is the same one I give about Concierge: it depends on how you like to travel.
