I'm Melissa, and I've traveled National Geographic Expeditions myself: Morocco's kasbahs and gardens, and the once-a-year tulip-season river cruise through Holland and Belgium. Our Tulip-Season River Cruise
The Holland & Belgium in Springtime river cruise sails once a year, at the height of tulip season — and it's the trip I describe when people ask what Nat Geo travel feels like. Home was AmaWaterways' beautiful AmaMora; the days were Keukenhof's tulip gardens in full bloom, the UNESCO windmills of Kinderdijk by bike, Delft's blue-and-white pottery works, and a beer-waffles-and-chocolate food tour through Antwerp. Our Nat Geo photography expert coached the whole ship's tulip shots all week. I filmed the sailing stem to stern — check-in day, Stateroom 315, the ship tour, and every port.

Morocco, With the Flag Flying
Our Morocco expedition is the trip in the photo at the top of this page — the whole group, the Society flag, and Morocco's red-rock gorge country behind us. Marrakech and the Yves Saint-Laurent Garden, the kasbah roads, mint tea poured from a height — all of it with Nat Geo's experts turning scenery into story. That flag photo is a Nat Geo tradition, and holding a corner of it tells you exactly what these trips are selling: you're not a tourist on this itinerary, you're part of the expedition.
And if you shoot on an iPhone like we do, don't let the photography focus scare you — it was our first Nat Geo trip, and we worried it would be over our heads, until Sissy, the award-winning National Geographic photographer traveling with us, would come sit with us, scroll through our iPhone photos, and coach us on shot ideas and exposure.
